Solar water pumping
Supplying drinking water to outlying populations
Underground water is often the only drinkable water for isolated communities. In the absence of an electrical grid, solar photovoltaic pumping is a perfectly appropriate solution for meeting the needs of local populations, while respecting the integrity of the local water table.
The solar photovoltaic pumping systems convert solar radiation to electricity in order to supply a pump that has been submersed in a borehole or well.
Solar pumping was the first photovoltaic application developed by Tenesol in West Africa in the 1980s. Today, Tenesol is an undisputed expert and specializes in designing, manufacturing, and installing solar pumping systems. It also looks after the training needs of local populations in terms of maintaining the installations.
